India is taking the lead in global AI trust and adoption, according to a study by KPMG and Melbourne Business School.
Surveying over 48,000 people across 47 countries, the report found that 76% of Indians trust AI—significantly higher than the global average of 46%.
This trust is paired with optimism: 94% of Indian respondents believe AI will offer widespread societal benefits, and 90% say it enhances service accessibility and effectiveness. AI is already influencing sectors like healthcare and finance, improving productivity.
Yet, concerns persist. While 90% support AI adoption, 78% worry about its risks—particularly reduced human interaction, reported by 60%. Misinformation remains a top issue, with 87% calling for stricter laws to combat AI-driven falsehoods.
In the workplace, AI usage is high: 97% of Indian employees use AI, and 67% depend on it. However, 73% report making errors due to AI, and 70% admit to non-compliant usage. Encouragingly, 83% of organizations have AI strategies, 86% offer training, and 80% enforce policies.
With 78% feeling confident using AI, India demonstrates strong digital readiness. The findings position India—and other emerging economies—as leading the way in responsible, impactful AI adoption.
